Backgammon players know very well that like any other board game, there are tactics and moves that you may use to ensure you are at the right track. Although these opening moves are only from a theoretical standpoint, it is still wise to know these wise to learn these stuff since these will help you develop your own backgammon tactics. It was said that the opening moves for backgammon are very less detailed than that of chess. This is precisely because backgammon is mostly ruled by chance. What you intend as an opening attack may not be applicable at all times and this depends heavily on the numbers that you rolled with the dice. What you can rely own is your own strategies and tactics once your opening move was established.

The very first strategy that you should know in backgammon is that you should position your backgammon checkers to avoid being trapped or hit by the opponent. Remember that your goal is to bear off all of your backgammon men outside your home board. This is impossible if your way is blocked by your opponent. Another backgammon tactic that is crucial to your game play is that you should be ahead of your opponent. This mans you have to move your backgammon checkers to your home board as soon as you can. If this is something you cannot do because your opponent is wise enough to block your way, our alternative is to have a holding game in which you try to control certain points of your opponent’s home board.

Another backgammon strategy that you need to learn is the priming game. This is easily done through positioning your backgammon checkers in a way that they build a wall to cover certain points in the board. Your goal here is to block your opponent’s way. In this backgammon strategy, you will be able to remove the possibility of your opponent to bear off his backgammon men.

These are only simple backgammon strategies that you can start practicing. What you have to do is to master each strategy at a time before you can move on and learn other backgammon tactics.
