Perhaps you are on of those who are baffled with the rules of backgammon. Backgammon rules are very simple to understand. All it takes is hard work and focus. If you are not really interested in the game, you are not likely to pick up the rules and how to play the game. Below you will see general rules of backgammon which may help you get the gist of the game.
The Players
Essentially, backgammon is one of those games played only by two people. There can be no more than two players for backgammon at a time. These two players should face each other and are given chances to roll the die from a cup. The reason a cup is used is to ensure that there is no foul play involved since the numbers that come out of the die will determine the movement of the backgammon checkers.
The Arrangement
Backgammon checkers have a standard arrangement, just like in chess. There are black and white outer tables and inner tables as well. However, backgammon variants have introduced several types of arrangements, too.
The Dice
For opening, each player will roll only one die. The player who gets the highest number rolled will start the game. After this, they will alternate in rolling their dice and moving their backgammon men. Keep in mind that the backgammon dice should stay flat on the surface of the board. Slanted dice will mean you have to repeat your roll. Since there are two dice, the combinations may be used to move the players accordingly to win the game. Let us say you rolled a 5 and a 2. You have the option to move a backgammon checker 5 steps and then another one two steps. You may also reverse the order in which you move on backgammon man two steps and then the other one five steps. The last thing you can do is to move a single backgammon man seven steps.
Playing backgammon is pretty easy. You do not need to be a math wizard or a mathematician of some sort to be able to calculate and strategize moves.
